Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you for supporting our Sports Day on Wednesday morning and thank you for all the positive feedback. It was a great morning and wonderful to see the whole school participating. Thank goodness the heatwave held off!

Over the summer holidays, the pedestrian paths leading in to the school will be replaced and additional lighting put in place. The fencing separating the car park and the paths will also be replaced. Please remind children that they must not lean or climb on the current fencing as it is not safe.

Please keep an eye on communications and letters being sent out over the next few weeks as the end of term is always very busy.

Sports Day

On Wednesday, we had a great morning of sport where the children showed off their amazing skills and enjoyed a variety of activities. It was a fantastic morning of cheering, smiling and competition. Well done to Red House who won a tight Sports Day!

Thank you to all those who came out to support the children and joined in with the cheering.

Art Week

During art week the children from Nursery through to Year Six all learnt about the artist Claude Monet. They focused on his painting ‘Water Lilly Pond’ and created their own piece of art work based on this painting.

The children’s artwork was showcased in a whole school art gallery this week. There were a number of techniques used such as water colour painting, finger painting, overlapping with tissue paper, shading, 3D modelling and wax resist.

It was great to see such fantastic art going on across the school and we hope that you enjoyed viewing the children’s art work as much as they did creating it.

Fun with Fractions and Cake!

Year 1 have been learning about fractions. They now can all confidently find half and quarter of a shape!

To make their learning more memorable, the children were each given a cupcake to half and then quarter. Miss Smart had a very busy weekend making the cupcakes, and the children were appreciative. They were all very impressed, and enjoyed seeing a real-life example of where they would use their Maths skills.

Bikes, Big Trucks and You

Last week, Year 5 took part in the award-winning Bikes, Big Trucks and You programme which is supported by Royal Mail. The children took part in an interactive quiz in the classroom before completing activities designed to teach them how to stay safe when riding their bikes on the road. One of these activities, gave them the opportunity to sit in the driver’s seat of one of the Royal Mail trucks and experience using the mirrors to help them understand how many blind spots drivers have.

Exploring beliefs through Art

In RE, the children have been exploring how Christian’s express their beliefs through the arts. They looked at stain-glass windows and considered the stories and messages these are portraying. They then wrote their own stories, inspired by stories from The Bible, that could guide people to make the right choices in life.

Tri-Golf at Downshire Golf Club

On Wednesday, a group of Year 3 and 4 children went to Downshire Golf Club to enjoy a variety of golf activities. Despite the heavy rain and slipping over all the time, the children had a great time and demonstrated some brilliant golf skills.

Tidy Up Day

Thank you to all the parents/carers and children who turned up to our recent 'Tidy Up Day'. I think you would all agree the grounds are looking wonderful.
