Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you so much for tuning in to our Bedtime Stories and for all the likes and lovely comments.  We are thrilled that they are being enjoyed and I am hoping that we can send out a full programme of stories for the remainder of the term, early next week.  On Tuesday Miss Bolton will read The Tunnel by Anthony Browne and on Thursday Mrs Kelly will read Peace at Last by Jill Murphy.  The videos will remain on our Facebook page and school website over the summer so that you can use our stories if you go away on holiday – no need to take books.  I will certainly be using them!

As you know, Wooden Hill School has always been used as a polling station.  Every time this has happened I have requested that an alternative venue be sought, most recently suggesting the new Pavilion as an alternative, but have always had my requests denied.  A couple of years ago our Nursery building was used as an alternative to the school hall, meaning that the main school could remain open, but sadly this was deemed as inadequate.  I would very much like for an alternative venue to be found so that the school does not need to close and I know that many parents and carers share my view.  

I am pleased to see that Bracknell Forest are running a 'Polling District and Polling Place Review' and that residents’ views are being sought.  I would encourage you to complete the questionnaire if you have strong feelings about our school being used as a polling station.  The survey can be found: https://consult.bracknell-forest.gov.uk/portal/dem/2019pdppr?

We are the CHAMPIONS!!

After a wet, windy week of fixtures the football league has now come to an end. After a long season where everybody worked hard to improve their skills and team work, we are ecstatic to announce that the A team have been crowned CHAMPIONS of the Bracknell Forest Schools Football League. Thank you to all the parents who have helped take children to fixtures, cheered them on (no matter the weather) and helped pack equipment away. Well done to each and every member of both teams who have worked really hard this year, we are very proud of them all! Let’s hope our successful run continues. 

It's all about the Farm in Reception

In Reception we have been learning about farms. We’ve made tractor pictures out of shapes to practice our cutting skills and used playdough to make carrots, eggs, birds and sheep. We are also practising our sharing and turn taking by playing games like snap!

Butterflies visit Year One!

On Monday, we had some special visitors come and visit Year One... Monica chose to bring in the butterflies she had been keeping at home! All the Year One children were extremely excited, and they loved watching the butterflies during the day.

As a class, we discussed how butterflies grow from caterpillars and the children showed off to their children just how much they knew about the life cycle of a butterfly. The children also thought of some adjectives to describe the butterflies.

We were going to set some free, although it started raining, so the children agreed it would be better to keep them in the dry!

Thank you to Monica for allowing us to keep the butterflies in Year One for the day!

Phonics 'Bootcamp'

Last week Year One enjoyed a 'phonics bootcamp'. The teachers set out a range of phonics games and activities, that the children went around in a carousel. The games included 'splat the word' where the children have to splat a sound they are given. They also enjoyed making different real and nonsense words using phoneme cubes, and loved matching captions to pictures. 

We have sent home some phonics activities today, to be completed if the children would like to. These activities will really help the children feel more confident in their phonics screening check, which is coming up after half term. If you have any questions about the check, or what we are learning in phonics, please ask your child's teacher.

Baseball/Softball Training

Year 5 were lucky enough to receive a visit from coach Jess from Bracknell Baseball and Softball Club recently. She ran a taster session for their Youth League which commences on the 10^th June 2019. If your child is interested in taking part in the Youth League,  please ask Mrs Sawford for more details.

Tidy School Day is TOMORROW!

If you are free tomorrow, please do pop along to help make our school look even more fabulous!  We will be looking for help with our garden project as well as larger tasks.  If you have any particular skills which you can offer, please let the office know.  Children are also welcome but must be accompanied by an adult and will remain the responsibility of the adult.
