Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you are all keeping well. You may notice that this newsletter is looking a little slimmer than usual. Now that we have more children in school and children still learning at home we want to make sure that the wonderful things that children are doing is celebrated fairly. This means that teachers will celebrate learning either in bubbles or on Google Classrooms. The Wooden Hill bubbles will continue to share their mixed age learning on the website and in the newsletter.
For children learning at home, work will continue to be set up to when the school closes on Wednesday 22nd July. It is expected that this work is completed and teachers will continue to respond to the work on Google Classroom up to and including this date.
I know that the question of September is at the forefront of many parents’ minds. It is ours, too! At the moment, we are still awaiting the government to issue any guidance as to what school will look like in September and what expectations there will be for social distancing in schools. The Prime Minister has been clear that it is his ambition for all children to return but until we are given further information, unfortunately we cannot communicate what this means to us. I know that this is incredibly frustrating but we need to be patient. Please be assured that we will communicate the plans for September with you as soon as we possibly can. If your child has been learning at home today, and not in a bubble in school, please ensure that they have answered the question on Google Classroom where they name 3 children who they would like to be in a class with. We will make sure that they have a least one friend from their list in their class.
We are expecting the building works to begin next week so the playground will start to look different. We are hoping that there will be minimal disruption due to these works.
Don’t forget that next week we are having a virtual sports day! Please refer to the weekly letter for your child’s year group for more information. The children in school will complete this in their bubbles and may wear PE kits all week but trainers are a must!
If your child is coming to school, please see the reminders as these are all for the health and safety of the children and staff.
We have already had lots of bags brought in for the Bags2School initiative. Please bring any unwanted clothes, shoes etc. to the foyer by Tuesday 7th July.
A book that has been recommended that you might find useful if your child is experiencing any worries or anxiety at the moment is, ‘Helping Your Child With Fears and Worries’ by Creswell and Willetts. It is a self-help guide for parents, providing step-by-step practical strategies to help your child overcome their worries. It is currently available on Amazon for under £10.
Once again, we would like to thank the parents and carers who have expressed their appreciation and thanks to the staff over the last few weeks with cakes and treats for the staffroom as well as the kind words and support shown. Wooden Hill School is a very special place and it is because of the amazing people who make up the community; the children, the staff, the governors and of course, you the parents and carers!
Have a lovely weekend.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs Lagares
