Star Awards

Congratulations to the following children who were awarded certificates for their achievements this week.

 

Emma (Wooden Hill) - for being so kind and helpful to the other children.

Mason P (Squirrel) - he has been using the pictures in books to re-tell stories to his family.

Darcey (Mole) - for working really hard on all activities set as well as many others and for showing a very positive attitude to her learning. 

Archie (Vole) - he made a computer programme with his brother and was very proud to tell Mrs Rutter about it.

Lucas C (Otter) - for learning to ride his bike without stablisers.

Daisy (Beaver) - Mrs Kelly was very impressed to hear that over the Easter holidays, Daisy learnt to ride her bike without stabilizers!

Logen (Rabbit) - for working on his handwriting consistently, making it bigger and more legible, and showing a great attitude towards home learning.” 

Elysia (Deer) - for being kind and support on Google Classroom to others.

Olivia H (Greenfinch) - along with completing her weekly work and putting in her usual full effort, she has been very busy creating several arts and crafts projects and even joining her Mum in a Tai Chi exercise session in the week!

Charlie H (Chaffinch) - for lifting everyone's spirits on Google Classroom with his friendly comments and lovely pictures.

Megan O (Jay) - since the very start of the remote learning she has completed all of the work set and has been very polite when asking questions on Google Classroom. She has also been making sure her work is of a high standard.

Miles (Woodpecker) - for the simple reason that I can see from his learning on Google Classroom that he's got a good work ethic and got on with his learning. He's clearly got a routine going which we know is key for learning during our time at home. Good example, Miles!

James (Kite) - for his creative WW2 tank model that he made using lego during his WW2 project.

Dawid (Owl) - for being determined to access Read Theory and Spelling Shed MORE OFTEN than required to continue his learning at home.

Nursery Roundup

This week, the children in Nursery have begun a theme of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and other bugs.

The focus this week has been on the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. Hannah and Freya have been busy sequencing the story with pictures and Mason has been re-telling the story to his family.

The children have been learning all about how caterpillars change as they grow and then turn into butterflies. They have been looking at the patterns on butterfly’s wings. Douggie has been creating symmetrical pictures with paint. 

The children have also been busy developing their mark making. Zachary and Teddy have been working on their pencil control.

Many of the children have been enjoying the lovely warm weather outside. Charlie has been searching for bugs, Jesse, Jude, Zack and Noah have been for walks with their families and Grey has been playing in his sandpit.

There has been lots of delicious cooking going on too. Hannah and Freya have made all sorts of Hungry Caterpillar food, including fruit kebabs and jam caterpillar balls. Zach has made flapjacks, cookies and cakes.

Wooden Hill Class Roundup

We have a temporary new class at Wooden Hill School!  It is made up of children from across the school; from Nursery to Year 6.  The children work collaboratively together and are supported by a range of staff.  This week Wooden Hill Class have had great fun playing outside, making rainbows as well as continuing the work set by their teachers and new friendships have been formed.  Wooden Hill Class also had the strange experience of taking part in our very first whole school, virtual assembly!  They all enjoyed the experience – especially watching it back afterwards in the classroom, it was definitely a first for all of us!

Reception Roundup

We hope you all had a great Easter break, thank you for sharing some of the things that you have done in the holidays, some of the beans are growing really well!

It’s the first week back following our Easter holidays, and it’s been a very different start to a new half term compared to what we have been used to, as we have been learning at home. 

May we say a big thank you to all of you who have signed up to google classroom and who have been sharing the great work that you have been doing at home.

Our topic for the half term is ‘Can we help the baddies in fairy tale land make good choices?’ and this weeks focus text has been the ‘Three Little Pigs’.

The children have been investigating different materials to make a house for the pigs. They have tested their materials to see which is the strongest, as well as designing their own houses.  There has been suitcase packing, thinking about what a pig would take to his new home, as well as songs and role play. Some of you have completed a  story map to retell the story and act the story out to your families.

In maths we have been doubling numbers and continuing patterns. We have had some lovely examples of work shared on google classroom, as you can see.

Some of us have been doing our own learning too, Blake made a lady bird and Amalie has been teach a teacher and has been teaching her little brother!

Year 1 Roundup

Clearly, things are a little unusual at the moment so we are unable to update the website with news and photographs of our learning in school as we usually do. However, we absolutely love seeing what you are all getting up to at home so we thought we would share a few highlights. Stay safe and keep smiling. We miss you all so much! Year 2 Round Up

Miss Bolton and Miss Smart have been blown away by the Wonderful Home Learning! Not only are you working on our assigned work, you're also doing EXTRA learning and experiments at home. Some of you have been on nature walks, been baking, crafting and creating and much more. What brilliant children you are!  Keep up the fantastic work Year 2, and send us all of your pictures onto Google Classroom so we can see.

Year 3/4 Roundup

We’ve been loving seeing all the things Year 3 and Year 4 have been up to over the Easter holidays! These have included arts and crafts, going for walks, baking and even making bug hotels. 

We’re looking forward to seeing more of your amazing school work soon on Google Classroom too.

Year 5 Roundup

While at home, Year 5 have been continuing to produce their learning to a high standard. So far, they have written biographies and stories, learnt about decimals and percentages and completed projects about life cycles. Photos of the life cycle projects to follow - keep your eyes peeled! Their teachers have really enjoyed seeing all their work and are really proud of them all.

The Year 5 Teachers have also enjoyed seeing the other activities that the children have been getting up to at home including, baking, art and various science investigations including make predictions and drawing conclusions about the behavior of bunnies.

Year 6 Update

Over the last four weeks (including the Easter break), we tasked children to create a World War Two project. The children were able to select an area of the war which appealed most to them. It could have been a famous figure from the war, the machines and artillery used or a look at the Home Front, for example. Children were able to choose their own topic and create work from this. This was a 4-week unit, beginning the week before Easter, continuing over the Easter holidays and to be finished by the end of this week.
