Accessing the School

The vehicle gates are currently on manual operation and are often left open in the mornings. We ask that parents resist the temptation to use this as a cut through. ALL pedestrians must access the school via the pedestrian gates. This is for safety reasons as the surface in the car park is very uneven and there are moving vehicles.

Please Remember to Park Considerately Around Our School!

Despite several reminders, we still have some parents / carers that are not parking considerately. Where possible we encourage that children walk to school. However, should you need to drive to school, please ensure that you park considerately and safely. This will help make sure that we keep congestion to a minimum, maintain good relationships with the school’s neighbours and most importantly help keep children safe around the school.

Friends of Wooden Hill Meeting

The next Friends of Wooden Hill meeting has been arranged for Thursday 23^rd January at 5PM. If you would like to get involved, come along and find out more!

Bikes and Scooters

Bikes and scooters are not permitted to be used anywhere in the school grounds. Please ask children to dismount on entering through the gates and walk their bikes or scooters to the bike store. This includes adults, pre-school aged children and children who do not attend Wooden Hill School.

Please also ensure that all bikes and scooters are collected at the end of each day.

Reception Roundup

Happy New Year to you all! The children returned to school happy and positive after a lovely Christmas break. It has been great fun hearing all about the children's Christmas holidays and all the lovely presents they received.

The children are all excited and looking forward to starting their new topic, ‘How shall we get there…?’

This week the children have started looking at the story ‘Whatever Next’ to introduce our Space topic, which the children are very excited about. They have been learning space facts and this is going to be part of their Oracy work, where the children will learn and recite the facts to each other.

On January 29^th you are invited into a phonics workshop, where we will share how we deliver phonics in the classroom, and you can work with your child to create a ‘busy bag’ which will further support learning at home.

Year 1 Roundup

What a great first couple of weeks Year 1 have had! Last week a lot of time was spent talking about the children's Christmas news and it was lovely to hear all about what the children had been up to and the lovely presents that they received.

Last Tuesday the children came into school and they were greeted by a very exciting and unexpected scene! It appeared that overnight a dinosaur had visited their classroom and left behind a lot of mess!! The furniture was turned over, there were footprints on the carpet and a nest with eggs had been left behind. This has led to a lot of discussion about dinosaurs and the children are very eager to begin their new topic!

The children have been discussing what facts they already know about dinosaurs (there are some experts in our year group) and we talked about how they could find further information. They have been exploring different sources including ipads, books and video clips to collect a bank of interesting facts about dinosaurs. This has been developed further by turning the information found into their own dinosaur fact files.

Year 2 Roundup

As part of the Science and PSHE unit this half term, the children have been looking at the importance of keeping healthy. They are looking into the importance of eating well, being positive, getting enough sleep, keeping clean and exercising. They have had a lot of fun with 'The Body Coach - 8 Minute Work Out'. The kids absolutely loved it and felt very energised afterwards!

As of last Friday Rabbit Class are currently the 64th best class in the whole world on the Spelling Shed leader board. Well done children for being spelling super stars!

Year 3/4 Roundup

This term Year 3 and 4 are learning all about Ancient Greece. The children have learned all about the Greek alphabet and even wrote their own names using Greek letters and symbols. They have been finding out about the Olympic games, comparing the ancient games to the modern. This week they have been looking at Greek Myths, particularly focusing on Theseus and the Minotaur. They have been learning all about the story and learning about how the characters might have been feeling.

Year 5 Roundup

This half term in science, the children have started learning about different materials. They have started the unit by investigating soluble materials.

Year 6 Update

The children have been super busy learning about the Victoria era and finding out about Queen Victoria. They have written a diary entry for a character the book ‘Street Child’ by Berlie Doherty. They have made predictions about what it was like being poor and rich in the Victorian times, and have been describing a Victorian kitchen. They finished the week by writing about what happened to the characters in the book (Street Child) after their mum left.

In maths, the children have been looking at addition, division, subtraction and multiplication of decimals and have been learning about working together in teams.
